Adis Soriano

She was born on July 3, 1961, in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America.

She is born to parents Amadeo Soriano Quintanilla and Olivia Guerrero Rodas, she is the middle sister of 9 siblings in total.

From a young age, Adis participated in various activities, softball competitions for her school, theatrical activities, school events.

She listened to a lot of music and had a taste for learning languages ​​and from a young age she studied English.

Adis developed crochet fabrics for the family, until she started selling knitted shoes for babies.

She studied a technical career as a bilingual executive secretary where she learned English and joined the El Salvador Air Force to learn parachuting. She supported her mother in manual things such as making paper flowers and decorative ornaments. Later her interest in art grew.

During the civil war in El Salvador she loses one of her brothers and to get away from the war she decides to change her course.

Adis arrived in Oaxaca Mexico in 1980 with his second cousin Rolando. She had previously heard about Mexico from her father and some friends who told her about it and since she was young she had wanted to visit it. Upon finding herself in Mexico, she falls in love with the culture, food, customs, traditions and especially the traditional attire of different states of the republic, known as Huipiles.

 

She travels through Mexico and her first daughter Addis is born in Jalisco. She returns to Oaxaca in 1982 where she meets Helmut Kohl in a telephone booth while talking to one of her sisters. After agreeing on their plans, they form a free union and travel between Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Mexico City and Jalisco. They decide to settle in Tlaquepaque Jalisco.  

In 1983 Adis studied tapestry design and weaving in the "Gobelinos Riedl" workshop with Theodor Riedl.

 

Adis and Helmut traveled through several European countries while pregnant and at the end of 1984 Sofía was born in Mexico, during this time Adis learned to speak German.

 

1 year and four months pass, in 1986 Mayela is born. During this time Adis began to sketch in pencil and paint with acrylics.

In 1988 she began with oils, wax and mixed techniques.Helmut and Adis get married.

 

End of 1989 Katja is born. 

1992 Adis receives his Mexican Residency.

 

In 1993 she learned contemporary art in oil and acrylic under the painter Ramiro Torreblanca´s teachings in the "Arco" workshop, continuing in 1995 with encaustic art with the master painter Mario Martín del Campo.

In 1996 she delved into sculpture in the "Rodas" workshop with the painter Antonio Ramirez. That same year she specialized in the Japanese handmade paper technique called "Washi Zoo-Kei" under the teachers and artists Teiji Ono and Lilian Zesati. It is worth mentioning that in the future Adis received an honorable mention from the Setegaya museum in Tokyo, Japan and a stamp with her signature in Japanese, where she was named Arinko, meaning "little ant."

Finally, she knows and specializes in engraving, in the "GUACHABATO" workshop with the teachers Raquel Guerrero and Eduardo Naranjo.

 

1997 With the teachers José Ramón Vázquez and Teresa Valdez in the "Axolotl" workshop she learns about screen printing. Adis begins to expand her knowledge and artistic techniques.

 

Adis learns to speak french.

 

In the years 1999 to 2001 she taught herself to use watercolors, just as in 2000 she began to travel from the United States to Mexico constantly (Twin Falls, Idaho, Gallup New Mexico, Phoenix Arizona, California, New York and New Jersey) .

 

In 2004 she lives in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico, an exhibition is organized at the Casa de Francia in Mexico by then the cultural attaché of the French embassy, ​​Gérard Teulière.

 

Africa

​2006, she meets Gérard again, who has just been appointed director of a French cultural center in Africa, and is invited to live with him and his daughter Emilie in Guinea Bissau Africa, a dream she had had since she was little. She told her family that she would like to go to Africa to see the elephants and some cities there. She managed to partially fulfill her dream since there are no elephants in Guinea Bissau.

She learns the technique of dyeing fabric with wax and color and becomes godmother of an African dance group and learns the Creole dialect of the region as well as Portuguese.

 

She participates in the ONG PLAN, which helps children.

In 2007, she held an exhibition at the French cultural center of Guinea Bissau.

 Europa

_

 

After 2 years her life took a new turn and she moved to Gaillac France in 2009 and later in 2010 she married Gérard Teulière.

She is invited to participate in several exhibitions in France.

 

Again Adis now relocates to Valencia Spain in 2013 where she warmly embraces the Spanish culture and she mentions that she feels at home, like when she lived in Mexico.

 

Thanks to all her efforts and support from her partner, Adis is invited to hold an individual exhibition in her native country in 2014 and another individual exhibition at the University of Valencia in 2016 where she makes known her point of view on the celebration of the day. of deaths in Mexico, in a series known as "Our thing is to pass."

 

In 2017 she returns to live in Gaillac France, where she meets different organizations and joins a carpentry shop where she learns how to make antique wooden instruments, restore furniture and her own art racks.

 

2018 Adis travels to Mexico and Central America to visit her family, but she returns to France at the end of the year where she begins her healing process due to an illness. Adis is moved to a hospital in Toulouse France where on February 8, 2020 Adis passes away with a smile on her face.
